Event Details

MRSPL and Bards Alley Bookshop are excited to co-host author Angie Kim for the release of her new novel, Happiness Falls, for a book talk moderated by Jamise Harper, the creator of the Diverse Spines® online book community and co-author of Bibliophile: Diverse Spines.

Copies of Happiness Falls can be pre-ordered online at www.bardsalley.com and both authors' books will be available for sale on-site at the event. A book signing will follow the author talk.

When a father goes missing, his family's desperate search leads them to question everything they know about him and one another -- both a riveting page-turner and a deeply moving portrait of a family in crisis from the award-winning author of Miracle Creek, which won the Edgar Award, the ITW Thriller Award, the Strand Critics’ Award, and the Pinckley Prize and was named one of the best books of the year by Time, The Washington Post, Kirkus, and the Today show.

About the Authors

Angie Kim moved as a preteen from Seoul, South Korea, to the suburbs of Baltimore. After graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy, she studied philosophy at Stanford University and attended Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. One of Variety Magazine’s inaugural “10 Storytellers to Watch,” Angie has written for The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, Vogue, Glamour, and numerous literary journals. She lives in northern Virginia with her family. Happiness Falls is her second novel.

Jamise Harper is the creator of the #diversespines hashtag and Diverse Spines®, an online book community that highlights literature by Black women & women of color. She's the co-author, along with Jane Mount, of Bibliophile: Diverse Spines, a richly illustrated and vastly inclusive collection that uplifts the works of authors who are often underrepresented in the literary world. Jamise is also the founder of Spines & Vines®, a social media platform dedicated to enhancing reading experiences with curated book and wine pairings. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
